Learn to Sew, Mend, Alter or Upcycle with mum

Your session. Your pace. Your project.

This is a shared session for two. One ticket, two people, two hours of making something together.

This is a class built around what you want to learn. Whether you've got a pile of clothes that need mending, a sewing machine collecting dust, or a clothes you need to alter; we start where you are and work on what matters to you.

Each session is 2 hours and completely standalone. You can book one session or come back for more as you build your skills over time.

What we can cover

You choose your focus at the time of booking. Options include:

  • Sew — get to grips with your sewing machine, from threading and tension to stitches and fabric types

  • Mend — fix tears, holes and worn seams by hand using techniques you'll actually use again

  • Alter — take in, let out, hem or adjust clothes so they fit the way you want

  • Upcycle — add embroidery, appliqué, patches or embellishments to breathe new life into something old

Not sure what you need? Just tell us what you've got and we'll figure it out together before the session.

What to expect

Kavitha — isifiso's founder with 30+ years of sewing experience — leads every session. She's taught complete beginners and nervous returners (yes, people who haven't picked up a needle since school). The pace is entirely yours.

You'll leave with a practical skill, something worked on or mended, and the confidence to keep going at home.

All tools and materials are provided. Just bring your project or garment if you have one.

Where

Prefer to come to us? We're based in South Norwood, South London. Sessions at this venue includes a free drink.

Who is this for?

Anyone who wants to learn properly, without the pressure of a group. Absolute beginners are very welcome. So are people who sew a little but want to get more confident.

Sessions work well for adults and older kids (10+) alike.

What people say

"I went from knowing absolutely nothing about sewing to having a grounding in the knowledge needed to tackle basic repairs and projects alone with my sewing machine. Everything from fabric choice and thread types to technique and equipment were covered. I really enjoyed the session and I'm feeling motivated to learn more!" — Sebastian ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"My confidence in my sewing skills has improved tenfold. The instructor was really knowledgeable and really patient with me. This workshop is a must for anyone who wants to improve their sewing skills." — Michelle ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"A very passionate, kind and patient teacher. It was quite relaxing and I had a great time. Speaking about the concept behind what we were doing was fantastic for context." — Sharon ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"I'll be wearing my embellished jeans with pride." — Karen ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

"This workshop was amazing. I learned how to mend clothes in three different ways and I was surprised by how easy and fun it was. I feel more confident and inspired to mend my own clothes now." — Maria ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
