Balm for Your Writing Practice
You want to write. You have things to say. But somewhere between the wanting and the doing, the page has a way of meeting you with a blank silence.
This is for you. Whether you've never started, keep meaning to return, or simply want your writing practice to feel less like work and more like coming home.
Balm for Your Writing Practice is a 90-minute experience that guides you from soul to page.
You'll move, breathe, and sound your way into creative presence.
Then you'll be guided through a curated journey of prompts that build on each other, opening you into flow.
And you won't do it alone. Writing in community makes the blank page less stark, less lonely. And it gives you more reason to meet yourself there, because you're held by everyone in the room doing the same.
You'll leave with words on the page, and a way back to them that begins not with willpower, but with embodied remembering. Something you can return to on your own, any morning you need it.

ABOUT US
Hi, I’m Karen Choi (founder of Balm & host) - I’m glad you’re here. After 20 years working behind the scenes in the performing arts and architectural design, I had spent so long supporting other people's creative visions that I had quietly stopped tending to my own. That absence led me to Balm.
I design restorative music experiences that invite people to slow down, reset, and soften back into connection with themselves, others, and the moments we share. Through curated music, movement, breath, vocal toning, poetry, and guided rest, we create an honest space to come alive with what is present in us.
In addition to hosting Soul Care Sundays every month, I bring this work to conferences, community events, and wellness spaces.
Simone Dalton (author, founder of Island Scribe, writing practice coach) - She believes every writing experience can feel like a retreat when you approach it with care and intention.
Her own return to writing began in a season of grief. Journaling became a daily ritual that reminded her she didn't have to perform on the page. She just had to show up. That practice led her back to herself, and eventually to coaching others to do the same.
Today Simone helps women writers and creatives, especially from BIPOC communities, build writing rituals rooted in presence, not perfection. Through her sunrise writing circle Rise & Write, 1:1 coaching, and Caribbean writing retreats, she creates spaces for rest, reflection, and reconnection.
