Get Funded to Build AI: SR&ED Office Hour for Proptech Founders
Many founders in the Proptech Collective community have successfully claimed SR&ED, and we want to help more of you do the same, especially as AI becomes a bigger part of what you’re building.
Not every AI project qualifies as R&D. A product that wraps ChatGPT in a new interface likely won’t make the cut, but a team training models on messy property data, or adapting AI to solve real estate problems that general tools can’t, might.
We’ve invited Employment Hero to share with us on how AI companies approach their claims, then we’ll open it up for questions.
This is not a webinar.
We’re keeping the group small, so everyone has time to ask. We’ll start with quick intros to get to know each other and focus the conversation on proptech-specific use cases.
What is SR&ED?
SR&ED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) is a Canadian government tax incentive designed to support organizations undertaking research and development — specifically work that pursues technological advancement or resolves technological uncertainty.
It’s essentially a return on a percentage of what you’ve already spent on qualifying work. Canadian businesses can be compensated for up to 70% of eligible payroll and 40% of eligible subcontractor and material costs incurred.
If you’re a startup building or iterating on a product and solving hard technical problems along the way, there’s a good chance you’re eligible.
