Lystistrata Re-Imagined
LYSISTRATA: A Re-imagining is a modern verse adaptation by Henry-Cameron Allen, drawn from Aristophanes’ comedy first performed in 411 BCE, a play once banned in the USA from 1873-1955, and also banned in Greece in 1943 by the occupying Nazi Regime.
In a city ground down by war, Lysistrata, an Athenian transgender woman who once lived as a male soldier, now stands fully as herself and gathers the women of Greece to seize the Acropolis and force the men to the negotiating table. With wit, heat, and a chorus that won’t be silenced, desire becomes strategy and peace becomes the only acceptable ending.
This fresh reading by our international virtual company, builds toward a final chorus where every voice joins the call for reconciliation.
