Designing a Baseline Reflection (Pre-Survey) That Actually Matters

Using Playlab + AI to understand your students from Day One

The start of a term is one of the most powerful and underutilized moments for learning design. In this hands-on session, you will learn how to use Playlab to design a meaningful baseline reflection (pre-survey) that goes beyond demographics and surface-level check-ins.

We will focus on constructing AI-facilitated reflection prompts that help you understand who your students are, what they already know, what questions or concerns they are bringing into the course, and how they see themselves in relation to the learning ahead. You will work from a flexible baseline reflection framework and learn how to adapt it to your specific course goals and teaching context, explore multiple deployment options (including direct Canvas embedding), and frame the activity as both a student-centered learning experience and a foundation for later analysis of growth and impact.

This session is ideal for higher education faculty and educators who want to start the semester with intention, clarity, and insight that genuinely informs their teaching.

To get the most out of the session, participants are encouraged to bring a draft syllabus or brief course description, if available.
