About Event

In celebration of the release of their latest chapbooks, we welcome the teams behind ATLAS Projectos and Sputnik & Fizzle to Well Read.

The publishers will discuss the publications and ongoing collaboration, followed by readings from Broken Filter by Anselm Berrigan, The Destiny of Water by Sueyeun Juliette Lee, and The Art of Words by Orlando White.

It's our unofficial holiday party and last event of the year, we hope you'll join us in raising a glass.

RSVP is free, and open now.

Broken Filter by Anselm Berrigan

In Broken Filter’s dozen poems orcas speak, hips are replaced, the poet is fake assassinated, and a proposal for all holy sites on the planet to be made into a ring around Earth is articulated. Family members are addressed, hallucinations are revisited, & dreams are allowed to be present as dreams as the poet tries to figure out if there’s really such a thing as recovery. The poems are blunt, warped, precise, and funny.

The Destiny of Water by Sueyeun Juliette Lee

The Destiny of Water explores climate grief through themes of baffling loss, persistence, and our interconnections across vast distances. Relying on observation and insight, I sought to find rest in a slowly shifting, beautiful, yet strange terrain. My model for being was water, the vast reservoir of planetary memory and how she eagerly pursues solace by running to cradle the earth’s heart.

The Art of Words by Orlando White from Arthur Sze

A poet is a maker, and, in The Art of Words, Orlando White, Diné of the Naaneesht’ézhi Tábaahí and born from the Naakai Diné’e, delves into the spaces inside words and activates a Diné cosmology out of the tiniest spaces; so the space in a glottal stop lifts into air and forms an electron cloud; the Diné word for water emerges out of the syllabic space inside the English word, water; and balance and imbalance, hózh= and hóchx-’, pivot around the invisible north star of an o. This is a stunning book that irrevocably changes our experience of language and makes us see the world with fresh eyes.

Sputnik & Fizzle publishes lectures, poetry, and other interventions in the world of ideas and praxis. We aspire to cultivate a space where academics and multimedia artists cross paths, where texts disturb comfortable formal territories, where national and linguistic boundaries are transposed via translation, and where the discourses that shape social, political, ecological, scientific, and artistic life coincide.

We are interested foremost in the confluence of the theoretical and the practical. Sputnik & Fizzle should highlight the fluidity between the humanities, arts, and sciences. We believe in the versatility of the lecture format and are committed to realizing its wealth of embodiments.

Sputnik & Fizzle was co-founded by Isabel Sobral Campos and Rita Sobral Campos.
