Strawmap: what happens to ETH during Glamsterdam

Whitepaper Reading Club HK [06] Ft. Hong Kong Ethereum Community Hub Topic: Strawmap: what happens to ETH during Glamsterdam

Glamsterdam breaks that habit. It is the largest upgrade since The Merge, and the first in years to put scaling back on L1 mainnet itself.

It is also the first major stop on the Strawmap, the Ethereum Foundation's long-range L1 roadmap. The plan is a hard fork roughly every six months, aiming for a faster, quantum-resistant chain with native privacy by 2029.

The upgrade merges two forks. Gloas runs on the consensus layer, and Amsterdam runs on the execution layer.

  1. Block-Level Access Lists (BALs, EIP-7928)

Each block declares upfront which accounts and storage slots it will touch. Clients can then map dependencies before execution and run parallel state reads instead of grinding through transactions one by one.
