Whitepaper Reading Club: Institutional Privacy & Token Standards on Canton
Institutional Privacy & Token Standards on Canton
Canton takes a different approach to public blockchain infrastructure: applications define their own privacy, permissions and governance while remaining interoperable through shared synchronizers. In this session, we’ll read the Canton Network Whitepaper and CIP-0056 Token Standard to examine what this architecture means for institutional finance and tokenized assets.
Institutional Privacy: Proof-of-Stakeholder vs. ZK proofs, two-layer consensus, and whether a network where most participants never see most state can still be considered a public blockchain.
Token Standards: Receiver-consented transfers, registry-signed holdings, no ERC-20-style allowances, and atomic delivery-versus-payment through time-boxed allocations. What does this model enable—and what does it break for DeFi composability?
