About Event

Join us for an unforgettable morning at Rawson Lake, where adventure meets creativity in the breathtaking Kananaskis Country. This hike is the second in our summer Hike Club Creator Series, uniting Calgary’s creators, creative entrepreneurs, and outdoor enthusiasts to explore stunning trails, capture inspiring moments, and connect with one another. This time around - choose to relax at the serene Rawson Lake or push further to conquer Sarrail Ridge for some iconic alpine views.

  • Location: Upper Kananaskis Lake Parking Lot, Kananaskis, AB

  • Distance: ~7.8 km round trip (Rawson Lake); ~10.2 km with Sarrail Ridge extension

  • Elevation Gain: ~320 m (Rawson Lake); ~650 m (Sarrail Ridge)

  • Difficulty: Moderate (Rawson Lake, steady climb); Moderate-Difficult (Sarrail Ridge, steep and exposed)

  • Duration: Approximately 2.5–3.5 hours (Rawson Lake); 3.5–6 hours (with Sarrail Ridge)

  • Cost: Free to join (Kananaskis Conservation Pass required for parking)

What to Expect

Hike along Upper Kananaskis Lake and through lush forests to the emerald waters of Rawson Lake, nestled beneath towering peaks in Kananaskis Country. For those seeking a challenge, continue up the steep Sarrail Ridge trail for panoramic views of Upper and Lower Kananaskis Lakes. We'll be catching some early fall colors, and spending some time at the lake.

Gear & Preparation

  • Required Gear: Hiking-appropriate footwear, water, snacks/lunch, layers (cooler at higher elevations), windbreaker or rain jacket, camera gear or phone for photos

  • Recommended: Hiking poles (helpful for Sarrail Ridge descent if you choose to do the second leg), sunscreen, hat, bear spray (bear activity can be possible in Kananaskis).

  • Note: Check the weather in the days leading up. A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for parking. Carpooling from Calgary encouraged due to limited parking.
