Making existing buildings the next big thing for climate
Brought to you by the U.S. Green Building Council & Futerra
Corporations, states, and cities are increasingly looking at existing buildings as a key investment in climate and community quality of life. Why? Building retrofits and optimizing operations can yield significant financial and non-financial benefits, when done right. For example, when planned and implemented over time, deep energy and carbon retrofits can support compliance with corporate targets and applicable regulations such as building performance standards, while phasing in first costs and often increasing overall profitability and value. And retrofits can be leveraged to increase resiliency of a building, to improve indoor air quality, and to create green space. At the same time, new tools, policy, and finance are enabling action on existing buildings.
This session will highlight new planning tools related to strategic decarbonization planning and indoor air quality. Speakers will also share the latest information on existing and emerging policy addressing existing buildings including decarbonization, resilience, and tax treatment of expenses. Through case studies and tangible resources, this session will help public and private sector organizations look at their building portfolios in a new light.
