Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin - Special Edition on Transformation 化 huà - December 2025
Wir laden herzlich ein zu einer besonderen Ausgabe des Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin – einem offenen, mehrsprachigen, informellen Raum für Begegnung und Austausch, Denken und künstlerische Resonanz - zwischen Berlin, Beijing und darüber hinaus.
Nach mehr als vier Jahren Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin, ein Projekt das in der Corona Pandemie als Ort der Verbindung in Zeiten der Isolation entstanden ist, steht diese Sonderausgabe mit Förderung der Senatskanzlei Berlin ("Städtepartnerschaft Berlin-Peking") unter dem Leitmotiv ‘Transformation (化 huà)’:
Wie navigieren wir durch gesellschaftliche Umbrüche? Welche Impulse bieten philosophische Perspektiven aus Ost und West? Was stärkt unser gemeinsames zivilgesellschaftliches Handeln? Welche Perspektiven bringen chinesische Diaspora-Communities in Berlin ein? Und welche Antworten finden Künstler*innen - im Dialog und performativ auf der Teehaus-Bühne? //
We warmly invite you to a special December 2025 edition of the Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin – an open, multilingual, informal space for encounter and exchange, reflection and artistic resonance – connecting people between Berlin, Beijing, and beyond.
After more than four years of Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin — a project that emerged during the pandemic as a space of connection in times of isolation — this special edition, supported by the Berlin Senate Chancellery (Berlin-Beijing Sister City Relations Program), is dedicated to Transformation 化 huà:
How do we navigate social upheavals? What impulses can philosophical perspectives from East and West offer? What strengthens our joint civil-society action? What perspectives do Chinese diaspora communities in Berlin bring? And what responses do artists find — in dialogue and through performative expression on the Teahouse stage?
PROGRAMM
*The overall program consists of a philosophical–civic salon in the afternoon and an artistic evening teahouse stage in the evening. The afternoon will be held primarily in German with Chinese summary translations; the evening will be in English and Chinese. Plus: non-verbal forms of expression — performance, music, tea, etc. If you want to join only one part, this is possible, please indicate. You can support the cultural program by buying a ticket here or donating on-site. Please note that the noodles/dinner will require a separate contribution.

• Dr. Wang Ge 王歌 – Krisenbewältigung in östlichen und westlichen Denktraditionen: Ermöglichung und Selbst-Verwandlung: Eine daoistische Perspektive auf den Wandel in Krisenzeiten《成全与自化：道家哲学中的危机之"化"》
• Dr. Wolfgang Schwabe 施维礼 – Zhuangzi und das Buch der Wandlungen: Zwei Sichtweisen auf den Wandel (化 huà) in Zeiten der Krise. 中国哲学的忧患意识：《庄子》与《易经》如何讨论变化
Gefolgt von interaktiven Teehaus-Tisch-Gesprächen mit abschließenden Forum mit den Gast-Referent*innen.
Dr. Wang Ge 王歌 ist Philosophin am Institut für Philosophie der Freien Universität Berlin. Sie war in Beijing an der Peking-Universität sowie an der Chinesischen Akademie für Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften tätig. Seit vielen Jahren engagiert sie sich als Vermittlerin zwischen deutschen und chinesischen intellektuellen Kulturlandschaften. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen die deutsche Romantik, den deutschen Idealismus, die moderne chinesische Philosophie und die Übersetzungstheorie. Derzeit entwickelt sie eine Ethik der Mütterlichkeit, die jenseits von retributiver Gerechtigkeit an asymmetrische Verantwortung, Interdependenz und generative Subjektivität anknüpft.
Zusammen mit Dr. Wolfgang Schwabe 施维礼 leitet sie uns inhaltlich durch den philosophischen Teehaus-Salon. Wolfgang Schwabe ist Sinologe, Philosoph und Musiker. Er promovierte in Berlin zum politischen Daoismus und in Taiwan zum Verhältnis von Daoismus und Konfuzianismus. Mit seiner langjährigen Lehrtätigkeit in Taiwan und Deutschland sowie als Spieler der traditionellen Zither (Qin) bringt er tiefe Einblicke in philosophische Perspektiven auf Wandel und Krise.

Teil II - Zivilgesellschaftliche Perspektiven - 17:00-18:00 Uhr
Impulsvortrag: Yu Nengda, 706Berlin e.V.: Von Peking nach Berlin - Jugend, Redefreiheit und Community
Inspiriert von der 706 Community in Peking, einem Jugend-Co-Living-Projekt in der Nähe der Tsinghua-Universität, und auf der Suche nach sinnstiftender Tätigkeit gründete der Musik- und Kulturmanager Yu Nengda zu Beginn der Corona-Pandemie in Berlin – zunächst in seinem Wohnzimmer – 706Berlin. Mittlerweile als ein eingetragener Verein ist 706Berlin e.V. der erste von jungen chinesischsprachigen Migrant*innen gegründete Kultur- und Diskussionsraum in Berlin und hat seit 2021 über 200 interkulturelle Veranstaltungen realisiert. Im Zentrum seiner Arbeit stehen Demokratielernen, Empowerment von Migrantinnen und interkultureller Dialog. An diesem Teehaus-Nachmittag nimmt uns Nengda mit auf eine Reise der Entwicklung von 706 und reflektiert den Spannungsraum zwischen Identitätsfindung und gesellschaftlicher Zugehörigkeit junger Chines*innen in Berlin.

7 pm - Performative Teahouse Stage: ‘Zero in Ten Thousand 万分之零’ by Paper Tiger 纸老虎 Theater
Paper Tiger 纸老虎 Theater, founded in 1997 in Beijing by Tian Gebing 田戈兵, director and choreographer, is a transcultural theatre and dance collective with bases in Berlin and Beijing. The collective brings together artists from dance, theatre, and visual arts to create innovative and politically engaged performances. Notable productions include “Revolution. Thorn in the Flesh,” which was performed at the Humboldt Forum.
In 2023, theatre director Tian Gebing and dancer and choreographer Wang Yanan 王亚男 set up the pop-up noodle bar “10,000 Noodles for Kafka” on Oderberger Straße in Berlin. For one summer, the space functioned simultaneously as a restaurant and a public theatre, blurring the boundaries between art and daily life and creating a site of resonance that engaged with Kafka’s themes of displacement, alienation, and unfinished quests in contemporary contexts. For our special November Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin edition, Paper Tiger 纸老虎 presents a performance under the working title “0 – Zero in Ten Thousand 万分之零.” Through spoken word and a dance intervention, the artists share personal stories and reflections on our theme of transformation (化 huà) — as creators of an independent theatre collective working between Beijing, Berlin, and beyond.

The evening will conclude with an Open Community & Music Stage, inviting musicians and artists — whether planned or spontaneous — to share their contributions to this creative interplay between Berlin, Beijing.

Junge Klangwelten aus Peking – ein Stück für Cello und Klavier mit Chen Zhijian (陈徵兼) & Gu Yueyue (顾乐跃)
Both originally from Beijing and now based in Berlin, these two exceptionally talented young musicians bring a vibrant selection of works for cello and piano to the stage. Their program spans a wide spectrum of musical expression — from the fiery elegance of tango to the tender lyricism of Schubert’s art songs, as well as a contemporary piece by the renowned Chinese composer Chen Qigang.
»mooncake songs | 月餅歌« by Roman Wilhelm (羅小弟), a Berlin-based graphic artist and musician, released his album »mooncake songs | 月餅歌« in September 2025. His music oscillates between the use of diverse languages, electronics, and folk. The mooncake songs were written throughout a period of 20 years on a multitude of stays in Shanghai, Beijing, or Hong Kong. They are about an increasingly difficult relationship, not with a person, but with a whole country. On this performance, Roman will be accompanied by Till Hasbach on accordion and Philipp Heßeler on bass guitar.

ABOUT: The Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin was founded at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic by C*SPACE Creative Hub together with Chinese and Asian communities in Berlin, with the aim of creating spaces for connection in times of disconnect. The project was launched with initial support from the Berlin Senate Chancellery (International Department, Sister-City Partnerships). Over the past four years, the project has continued to evolve through collaborations with numerous partners and communities.
With renewed support from the Berlin Senate Chancellery, this special edition of the Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin in December 2025 is not an anniversary, but a moment of pause in the flow of time – a collective space for reflecting on what has transformed — and on what we are now called to shape together.

Pop-Up Teahouse Berlin 2025 特别版以“茶 · 对话 · 变革（化 huà）”为主题，于 11 月 29 日在 C*SPACE Berlin 举行，打造开放、多语、跨文化的思想与艺术空间。活动围绕社会变革与未来想象展开，从哲学、青年移民经验到跨国剧场实践，呈现三重对话结构。下午的哲学沙龙由王歌博士与沃尔夫冈·施瓦贝博士引领，以东西方思想探讨危机中的“变”，并配以古琴《文王操》。哲学对话之后，将由 706Berlin e.V. 创始人余能达分享“从北京到柏林”的青年与社区经验，延伸至移民、身份与公共参与的讨论。晚间由纸老虎剧场田戈兵和王亚男带来跨国表演《万分之零》，以艺术家个人叙事回应流动、异化与创作处境，并为观众提供面条晚餐。夜场开放舞台邀请来自柏林与亚洲的艺术家共同呈现音乐与诗意表达。活动免费开放，以德中英多语及艺术形式创造跨文化共振。
