"Mumia Lives!" Birthday Celebration & Film Screening

​On Friday, April 24th, 2026, Mumia Abu-Jamal will turn 72 years old. He has been incarcerated in the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections the majority of his life, 44 years for one of the most egregious wrongful conviction cases in history. Now after several instances of medical neglect and elder abuse, Mumia is dealing with several exacerbated conditions, and is at risk of losing his eyesight. Despite that, he has consistently used his voice, writing and power to sharply condemn US imperialism domestically and abroad, uplifting decolonial and revolutionary struggles internationally.

So we're celebrating Mumia's 72nd birthday with a rally outside District Attorney Larry Krasner's office, located at 3 South Square, Philadelphia, PA, demanding immediate medical care for Mumia.

From there we'll march to The Friends Center at 1501 Cherry St, Philadelphia, PA, for a reception where we'll share dinner, celebrate Mumia's life with a few speakers, watch documentaries about Mumia's movement, eat cake and write cards for the man of the hour. Maybe he'll even call in!

​In collaboration with Prison Radio, Abolition School, Black Alliance for Peace, and so many more, even if you can't rally with us, come out, meet local organizers and learn about a luminary like no other. It'll be an excellent night of communal cheer, camaraderie and celebration as we uplift a revolutionary who has sacrificed so much for Philadelphia and folks internationally who are trying fight against state violence and to take their empathy to the fullest extent.
