Seminar: Innovation Pathways for Sustainable Digitalisation

The seminar examines the pathway from research and technology development to innovation and clarifies the distinctions and relationships between innovation and invention. It further addresses how intellectual property can play a role in advancing ideas emerging from academic research and interdisciplinary collaborations, aimed at supporting the sustainable digitalisation of society.

In this session, Bengt Lindoff provides an informed and practical introduction to innovation by explaining its connections to invention and patents, and by outlining the how, what and why behind strategies that enable ideas to progress from early concepts to recognised innovations. His perspective is grounded in long experience from world‑leading R&D and standardisation environments, offering a clear understanding of how innovation processes function in practice.

While drawing on examples from industry, the seminar highlights how these principles can be relevant within a university context, for researchers considering the next steps for their findings, for students exploring how their ideas can develop further, and for academic staff engaged in creating environments where new knowledge can take shape. The seminar aims to illustrate how research and technological development can be translated into sustainable innovations, inventions, and patents that support the long‑term digital transformation of society and industry.
