About Event

Join us for an evening that blends entertainment with awareness, learn while having fun! We don’t need another lecture hall. We need to sit down, pop the popcorn, and talk about what’s actually tracking us.

Part 1: Watch party!!!!

We're screening a thought-provoking movie/show that pulls back the curtain on something that we take for granted in our lives - the internet.

Part 2: Discussion

We open the floor and chat about what we just watched, what hit home, what felt absurd, what made you check your own phone out of sheer paranoia. No lectures, no right answers. Just a lively, fun group conversation. You will be surprised as to how many parallels can be drawn from the show to real life.

Part 3: What we can actually do?

A privacy expert will be joining us to given us a few actionable steps that we can start to implement the same day to walk out of the session feeling safer. There will be no jargon or technical talks, just a few basic steps for literally everyone regardless of their background.

Who this is for

Everyone. Seriously! if you've ever wondered "how do they know that about me?" or had a faint sense that something about the internet doesn't feel right anymore. You don't need to care about privacy to enjoy the evening; you just need to care about a good movie.

What to Bring

Your curiosity. Snacks optional. Your phone on silent (ironic, given the theme 😉)

Privacy is not about hiding.

Privacy is something ordinary and human. It's the ability to decide what parts of your life get shared, when they get shared, and with whom. In the physical world this feels obvious. You close the door when you change clothes. You lower your voice in a crowded room. You don't hand your diary to a stranger.

Online, we've slowly given up all of that, usually without realising we were giving anything up. Each app asks for a small permission. Each service collects a small piece of information. Individually, none of it feels like much. Put together, it forms a surprisingly complete picture of how you live, think, move, and talk to people you love.

Although it might not seem so, there are tangible consequences to "living like an open book". Every time you click, scroll, or stream, data is collected. Your browsing habits, location, purchases, and even your biometrics are packaged, sold, and sometimes weaponized. Privacy isn't just a buzzword, it's the foundation of freedom in the digital age.

What is the 'CyberSwaraj' event series about

CyberSwaraj is a gathering for anyone interested in digital privacy, open-source tools, and taking back some control over their digital life. We run sessions for beginners, workshops for people ready to go deeper, and occasional deep-dives for the technically curious. Developers, privacy advocates, and people who've simply had enough of being tracked are all welcome.
