About Event

Hosts:- Organiser: CivicDataLab Pvt. Ltd., India

Co-Organiser: Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Thailand

Language: English with Thai language support and materials

The session will commence with a moderated panel discussion featuring experts. It will be followed by a walkthrough of the Bangkok’s flood management dashboard (an initiative of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, co-developed by CivicDataLab and Open Contracting Partnership). Subsequently, a hands-on, participatory workshop will be conducted, drawing upon the insights from the preceding panel discussion and dashboard demo. The session will conclude with a reflective segment where participants will articulate best practices for initiating collaborative engagement with climate data ecosystems and existing data-driven tool(s) to build long term flood resilience.

Session Description:

The session will explore climate data ecosystems and data- driven tools being developed in Southeast Asia, focusing on diverse use-cases such as disaster risk reduction, framework and tools for flood management, climate data systems (including real-time surveillance tools and long-term planning frameworks), climate data applications in other important areas like public health, green public finance management, sustainable public procurement, and natural resource management. We will seek to understand challenges and opportunities related to data governance, data standardisation, data sharing, and data AI-readiness amongst other issues. We will also explore how various stakeholders, especially citizen groups, are able to regularly interact with climate data ecosystems and provide their timely feedback.

We hope this session will help participants understand core principles and some best practices to start co-creating and engaging with climate data ecosystems in their geography, and help identify novel datasets and emerging techniques to help strengthen our collective climate action efforts.

The ensuing discussion will empower participants to prioritise the proactive development of climate data ecosystems, thereby addressing flood risk challenges and building long term resilience in their target geographies.
