Beyond Headline Emissions: Understanding the Full Climate Impacts of Major Gas Projects
As LNG continues to be promoted as part of the energy transition, understanding its climate consequences means looking across the full value chain. This session will introduce the Carbon Impacts Tracer through case studies of Browse LNG in Australia and Mozambique LNG, showing how emissions from extraction through to shipping and combustion add up to a project’s wider climate footprint.
The discussion will explore how a clearer picture of these projects’ emissions can inform government decisions, public and private financing, and scrutiny of new LNG supply. Participants will consider how transparent, accessible climate data can strengthen accountability and help assess whether long-lived gas infrastructure is compatible with global climate goals.
