This discussion will explore how open networks are transforming the digital economies of the Global South, such as India’s UPI and ONDC, emerging Open Networks in Indonesia and Africa. Speakers will discuss how interoperable digital public infrastructure, increasingly augmented by AI-driven solutions, enables inclusive payments, commerce, and innovation for small merchants and consumers.
The session will examine governance, ecosystem collaboration, and lessons for scaling open protocols, including how AI can support discovery, trust, efficiency, and participation at scale without recentralizing power. It will highlight the impact of open networks on financial inclusion, competition, and digital transformation across diverse markets.
The discussion will also address the future trajectory of open networks in the Global South, exploring how AI-enabled services can be sustainably embedded within open architectures. Questions on sustainability, monetization models, industry participation, and long-term governance, particularly in the context of AI adoption and oversight, will be discussed.
