Potential risks and benefits of mCDR at the pilot and Giga tonne scale: Ocean Iron as a case study

The ocean covers 71% of our planet and is our most powerful ally in the fight against climate change. Ocean Iron Fertilization is emerging as a low cost, scalable, and rapidly deployable method of marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR). Led by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the Exploring Ocean Iron Solution (ExOIS) consortium is advancing research on and establishing the best practices and governance for the study of ocean iron fertilization as one of many steps that will be needed to remove atmospheric CO2.

Dr Ken Buesseler, Senior Scientist at WHOI who is leading this program, is the guest of Nature Tech Collective x Nui's Ocean Series. He will share about this approach and where it stands.

What you’ll learn:

  • How ocean iron fertilization works

  • Best practices to advance the research and deployment of this approach

Speaker:

Ken Buesseler - Senior Scientist, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

Who should join:

  • Innovators, researchers and policymakers exploring carbon removal pathways

  • Investors and buyers of carbon credits

  • Anyone curious about the role of oceans in climate solutions
