Introduction to Tango with Lucia Ohyama
Never danced tango? Start here.
Before we start our 5-week beginner course, we're bringing in the pros. Lucia's coming from Argentina to teach us things we didn't know we needed to learn.
She will guide us through some basics: how to stand, how to connect, how to walk with another human in front of you without it being awkward.
When: Saturday Jan 24, 6:00-7:00pm (1 hour)
Where: Nilupul Foundation, 51 Reform Street
After the workshop: Practice and socialize from 7-11pm. Try what you just learned, watch other people dance, ask questions, make friends. You've already paid for the workshop, the practice is included.
What happens next: This is the kickoff for our 5-week beginner course starting Friday Jan 30. Last time Daniela ran a beginner intro, she promised ongoing classes and then was too tired to deliver (shame shame). This time she's organized - Lucia teaches you the foundations on Saturday, then we spend 5 weeks actually learning this thing properly.
If you like this workshop, join the Friday course. If you can't make this workshop, the Friday course starts from zero anyway.
About the Teacher
Lucia's been dancing and choreographing tango professionally for 20+ years. She's performed in major shows across Argentina (Tango Malambo, Compañía Mora Godoy, Señor Tango, and more), toured internationally with Julio Iglesias, and danced at the G20 summit representing Argentina-Japan relations.
In 2019, she was named "Outstanding Nikkei of the Year" in the arts category. She's also spent years (since 2016 to be exact) producing milongas, concerts, and shows - so she knows her stuff. (Source: https://dancehouse.ca/videla/)
Pricing:
£15 early bird (book before Jan 13)
£20 regular (after Jan 13 or at door)
Cancellations: Refund if you cancel 7+ days before the event. After that, you'll get credit for future classes instead - we all have full-time jobs and chasing refunds creates chaos. If you really need to cancel, let us know, but be kind about it.
