Garam Masala Ep.07: Rangeela! A night of karaoke, sangeet, and community
Garam Masala is back! And this time, we're throwing a Sangeet.
What is a sangeet? A sangeet (pronounced "sung-eet") is the joyful, chaotic, music-filled celebration that often happens the night before a South Asian wedding. Think: friends dancing to film songs, cousins performing choreographed numbers, aunties pulling everyone onto the floor. We are borrowing this tradition and making it our own, in the heart of festival season and in the spirit of celebration already in the air. It is a night where joy and expression belongs to everyone; all are invited to join us! Please note Absent LX is a phone-free offline cafe and creative space!
What to expect:
6:00pm: Doors open
- South Asian snacks and chaat are included in the price of the ticket, for drinks please pay for directly with the venue
- Sign up with the DJ (solo or with friends) to the Karaoke List
9:00pm: The evening continues with songs, dance, and more singing!
Come dressed in your most festive selves (kurtas, lehengas, sarees, and sherwanis are welcome). And remember keep your phones away and enjoy the evening with us!
Tickets: €12.50, advance only. Please note: No tickets will be sold at the door.
Classic desi snacks (samosas and chaat) are included. Drinks are on your own tab at the bar. Reach out to us if you need subsidized ticketing - we want to make sure nobody is left out due to financial constraints.
Garam Masala is an open invitation for people in Lisbon to come together and celebrate the rich culture and heritage we carry in our skin, our songs, our dance, and our food.
We are a collective of brown folx based in Lisbon with representation across four continents. We want to bring the explorations we’ve had over chai and samosas to others who want to celebrate our rich histories together in Lisbon.
A warm thank you to the team at Absent Tech for hosting us. 🙏
