field:work | Regional Dialogue with Futile Devices Collective (VN)
The second of our monthly Regional Dialogues, connecting the 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱:𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 community with artists, organisers, and practitioners from across Southeast Asia.
For this session, we’re joined by Futile Devices Collective, a new media art collective from Vietnam formed around a shared interest in technology, art, and DIY approaches to making.
Members Hà Châu Bảo Nhi and Nguyễn Thái Bảo will introduce Chế and Độ as Method, looking at two distinctly Vietnamese practices of repair, modification, and making-do—and how these everyday material sensibilities might offer ways of thinking about new media art.
Hoàng Phạm Gia Khang follows with Technology as a Medium: How to Talk with Your Engineer Friend, drawing from his experience across art and engineering to explore how artists and technologists can find a shared language, and what changes when technology is approached as a material with its own behaviours, possibilities, and limits.
Together, the session offers a view into new media practices emerging from Vietnam, grounded in local cultures of making, experimentation, and exchange.
Regional Dialogues run monthly across the 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱:𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 takeover, situating Singapore within broader Southeast Asian conversations around media art and creative technology.
