This proposed Tribunal will examine the accountability owed for the fossil fuel era and the justice required in the subsequent transition. As treaty negotiations, litigation, and phase-out commitments accelerate, the terms of that transition are being set largely without the communities who have carried the large costs of extraction, with consequences intensifying globally. Come not just to hear about this work, but to help fund, strengthen, and build it!
For the past three years, The Future Generations Tribunal has developed a Tribunal and testimony model that enables communities to document lived experience and build civic evidence. We have moved that evidence into spaces of public, political, and legal accountability, partnering with frontline communities to translate their experiences into the foundations of law and policy.
It began with the People's Assembly and the People's Petition, a 104-page testament from eighteen witnesses across every continent, formally submitted to the International Court of Justice as part of its climate Advisory Opinion proceedings. It continued with the East Africa Regional Tribunal, which convened youth leaders, community members, legal experts, and wellbeing practitioners to document harm, responsibility, and justice across generations.
