How can Singapore and Japan secure the food and energy needed for the next 60 years?
The Future Food & Fuel Summit 2026 (FFFS) will bring together technology companies, researchers, corporates, investors, government agencies and ecosystem partners from Singapore and Japan to explore this shared challenge.
Both countries have limited land and natural resources, yet face growing demand for food, energy and infrastructure. Addressing these pressures will require more than individual technologies. New solutions must move beyond research and pilot stages, connect with the right infrastructure and industry partners, and demonstrate that they can operate reliably at scale.
Supported by the Embassy of Japan in Singapore and organised in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Singapore–Japan diplomatic relations, FFFS will examine how both countries can build the partnerships needed to translate emerging food and energy technologies into practical deployment.
Programme
10:00–10:45 a.m. | Opening Ceremony and Welcome Addresses
The Summit will open with addresses from the Ambassador of Japan to Singapore and the Singapore Guest of Honour, marking the bilateral significance of FFFS and setting the direction for the day’s discussions.
11:00 AM–12:00 PM | Scaling Future Food Systems
How can emerging food technologies progress from research and pilot production towards commercial scale and regional market access?
The discussion will cover production infrastructure, contract manufacturing, halal readiness, documentation, traceability and the partnerships required to bring new food technologies responsibly into Asian markets.
12:00 PM–13:00 PM | Next-Generation Energy
What will it take to move frontier energy technologies from development towards commercial deployment?
This panel will explore fusion, hydrogen, ammonia, biofuels, waste-to-energy and other emerging pathways that could contribute to a more secure and lower-carbon energy future. The conversation will consider the research, infrastructure, regulation, financing and international collaboration needed to enable feasibility studies, pilots and deployment.
14:00 PM–15:00 PM | Unlocking the Full Potential of Renewable Energy
Generating renewable power is only part of the energy transition. Energy must also be stored, managed and used more intelligently.
The panel will examine advanced solar, long-duration energy storage, smart grids, AI-enabled energy management, efficient cooling, building and data-centre optimisation, and infrastructure automation. It will focus on practical deployment challenges and opportunities for collaboration between technology providers, asset owners, utilities, infrastructure operators and government partners.
15:00 PM–16:00 PM | Future Protein and Food Innovation
How can new sources of protein and science-based food solutions strengthen existing food systems?
This panel will explore aquaculture, alternative proteins, precision fermentation, halal innovation, nutrition, circular food systems and food-waste valorisation. It will also examine how these technologies can be commercialised, localised and adopted across Asian markets.
16:00 PM–18:30 PM | Beyond the Panels
Singapore–Japan Strategic Roundtable: “Every Square Metre Matters: Feeding and Empowering the Future”
An invitation-only discussion examining how Singapore and Japan can meet growing demand for food, energy and infrastructure within limited land and natural resources. The roundtable will bring together leaders from government, industry, research and technology to identify shared priorities and opportunities for longer-term collaboration.
Strategic Deal Rooms and Curated Business Matching
Selected participants will be matched for focused discussions based on their objectives and areas of mutual interest. These sessions are intended to explore potential partnerships, feasibility studies, pilots, investment and market-entry opportunities.
Closing Remarks, MOU Showcases and Networking Reception
The Summit will conclude by highlighting collaborations and commitments emerging from the Singapore–Japan innovation ecosystem, followed by a networking reception where participants can continue discussions over light refreshments.
