​Join Seatrees & Scripps Institution of Oceanography for Kelp Night at Sea House for San Diego Climate Week!

​San Diego's kelp forests have declined over 90% since the 2015 El Nino event, due to impacts from warming oceans. Now, with a looming Super El Nino, come learn how Seatrees and scientists from Scripps Institution of Oceanography are helping to restore these lost forests with thermally tolerant strains of kelp.

​This restoration science is on the cutting edge of how humans can build resilience in ocean ecosystems and develop methods that can scale to help local communities everywhere protect and restore their local kelp forests.

​Seatrees will be screening Kelp Currency: Unlocking the True Value of the Ocean’s Forests followed by a conversation with Dr. Jen Smith from Scripps Institution of Oceanography about her kelp restoration project.

​Seatrees - Seatrees is a nonprofit focused on transforming surf culture into a force for sustainability. Seatrees was born out of a deep commitment to protecting and restoring our ocean ecosystems because of their immense potential to fight climate change, foster biodiversity, and support coastal communities.
