Media Lab: Office Hour

A monthly virtual Q&A where founders and executives get their media relations questions answered—no pitch required.

You know you should be talking to the press. But between "How do I know if my story is newsworthy?" and "What do I actually say when a journalist emails me back?" the gap between knowing and doing feels massive.

Media Lab: Office Hour is where you close that gap.

Every first Tuesday of the month, we host a 60-minute virtual session designed for founders and executives who are building something worth covering but aren't sure how to navigate media relations. We start with a quick media relations primer to get everyone aligned on the landscape, then dive into 3-4 questions submitted at registration, followed by open Q&A.

This session is for you if:

  • You're preparing to announce a raise, launch, award, or milestone—and wondering when to loop in the press

  • You've been told "you should do PR" but don't know where to start or if you're ready

  • A journalist reached out and you're second-guessing every word of your response

  • You're positioning yourself as an expert but can't figure out which outlets to target or how

  • You're in stealth mode and need to know what you can talk about without blowing your strategy

What you'll walk away with:

  • Clarity on whether your story is actually newsworthy (and how to frame it if it is)

  • Frameworks like the PESO model and IMPACT method so you can evaluate future opportunities yourself

  • Tactical answers to your specific situation—no generic advice

  • Access to our media list template to direct your outreach

  • Confidence that you can handle 80% of this on your own

Past attendees include Consumer Choice Award winners, recognized industry coaches, and founders navigating everything from fundraising announcements to crisis comms and reporter inquiries. The caliber is high. The vibe is collaborative. The advice is expert-level but delivered in plain language.

Led by Shelisa Demuth, founder of LAUREL, who has spent nearly two decades connecting leaders with journalists at NPR, Forbes, Bloomberg, and outlets across the country.

Space is limited to keep the format intimate and ensure your question gets addressed.
