Urban Frontiers Seminar: Tim Beatley – Cities That Love Nature; The Vision and Practice of Biophilic Cities
Join us for a talk with Dr. Tim Beatley, founder of the Biophilic Cities Network and one of the world’s leading city thinkers on nature and urban sustainability.
Nature provides many emotional, spiritual, and health benefits to city residents. The concept of biophilia argues that we have co-evolved with nature and have a deep need to connect with the living, natural world. As E.O. Wilson says, the human species has “grown up with nature,” and we are happier, more creative, and more generous in its presence. Although daily contact with nature is harder in cities, there remains remarkable urban biodiversity and many opportunities to design and plan in ways that restore nature and foster connection with the living world.
This seminar explores how cities that love nature can foster human well-being and ecological vitality in an urbanized world.
