Introduction to Fragrance with Liza Pittard Studios
Led by Richmond-based artist and perfumer Liza Pittard, Introduction to Fragrance is a crash course in olfactory histories and perfume arts. We will smell our way through the fragrance wheel and deep dive into raw materials to gain a deeper understanding of what's in the bottle. We'll discuss critical studies in olfaction and how experimental fragrance practitioners are using scent today.
Participants will come away with a new language for talking about aroma, a further studies resource list, and an unreleased sample of a working perfume draft by Liza. You'll also be able to purchase any of the Liza Pittard Studios offerings at a reduced rate at the conclusion of the course.
Liza Pittard is an artist and researcher based in Richmond, VA. Her practice ebbs and flows between scent, sound, food, and image, interfacing with the intimacy of archives, expressions of nature, and table theater. Her fragrance work is rooted in the lush landscapes of her Virginia upbringing and time spent daydreaming new worlds to inhabit in her artmaking, resulting in scents that drift between the familiar and the obscure.
