Drawing Play-Date - August - Cacti!
Drawing Play-Date:
The monthly free meet-up for everyone - hosted by Robyn Hepburn - where we scribble and draw like nobody’s going to judge us - which they're probably not.
This month we’re going to take a look at that most still and static of plants - cacti - and turn them into stylised characters full of personality and action...
I'm busy planning my Drawing With Style course, so I thought I'd use this Drawing Play-Date as a trial-run of some of my ideas. I'm going to guide us through some playful exercises to scribble, simplify and exaggerate a few cacti, and by the end of the call we should have at least a page full of cactus characters!
I usually try to avoid things that are trendy, and never jump on band wagons, but I think the cactus has probably had its day in the spotlight and is being replaced by capybaras and corpse flowers now, right? So I feel a bit sorry for it. Let's draw cacti!
What to bring:
If all you have is a pencil, that's absolutely great! Otherwise bring along:
Something bold that dries fast like markers, gouache, or ink
Something to add details: pencil crayons, fineliners, etc
Bonus points if you have some real-life cactus friends to show everyone. We would love to see them!
All ages and skill levels welcome! Bring your kiddies, your friends, your house plants - anyone who wants to just Draw and Play.
