Returning from the Underworld: A Sound and Storytelling Journey

"From the Great Above she opened her ear to the Great Below / From the Great Above the goddess opened her ear to the Great Below / From the Great Above Inanna opened her ear to the Great Below."

On the longest night of the year, we turn our ear to the great below. Storyteller Ingrid Norton will guide participants through the Sumerian myth of the goddess Inanna's Descent to the Underworld, one of the world's oldest stories, and sound healer Sabine Feuilloley will guide us into the depths.

The underworld is the realm of rot and renewal, of death, shadow, and transformation. The dramatic tale of Inanna's descent and return to the earth, the bargains she makes, and the powers she gains, is one of the world's great, dramatic myths. It is also a story that is returning to the light after millennia in the darkness, with much to offer us as we look for myths that honor the feminine, seasonality, and wisdom. Story and sound are two of the world's oldest healing technologies. When we hear mythic storytelling, an old ear in us wakes up. Old myths also offer us new resources for creating a fresh present and future.

Myth Lab founder Ingrid Norton will guide us into the realm of ancient myth, empowerment, and imagination, accompanied by Sabine Feuilloley, who will lead an extended sound meditation to close the evening. Come gather round for a deep and renewing solstice night of myth, sound, and story.

Led By: Ingrid Norton, Sabine Feuilloley

Ingrid Norton is a writer, scholar, and storyteller based in Brooklyn. She is the founder of The Myth Lab, a community think tank that develops new imaginative stories to envision and inculcate a more ecologically and emotionally whole world. Norton holds a PhD in American literature from Princeton and a master’s of theology from Harvard Divinity School.

She leads workshops on imaginative storytelling and cultural change and has performed ancient and modernized myths at venues from libraries to open air festivals. She is at work on a novel about a god and goddess who make a bet on two human lovers.

Originally from France, Sabine Feuilloley has called New York home for over 30 years—a city whose energy and diversity have shaped both her personal life and professional journey.

Her path has been anything but linear, marked by resilience, reinvention, and revelations—from the fashion world to healthcare.

During her career in fashion, she discovered meditation, and later sound meditation. These practices became essential tools for balance and clarity in a fast-paced universe, and later inspired her to explore healthcare with a deeper sense of care and presence.

Trained with experienced practitioners, she brings a grounded and professional approach to every session while keeping the practice accessible, transformative, and deeply restorative.
