Philosophy of Art: Man Ray
When the stick danced across the strings,
the shadow bent the fire,
and the light painted his quiet confession—
the fierce dilemma between Dionysus and Apollo.
With magical fingers, he touched the ordinary:
a comb, a glass, a curl of wire…
He made them fly,
he made them sing,
he made them glow...
And there,
he found his path:
breaking out of rigid squares and the doctrines of his peers,
dancing with confidence into his own playful room—
a place dreamy yet lucid,
to himself, to the rest of us...
This time, we’ll explore the Met’s special exhibition on Man Ray—an extraordinary opportunity before it closes on February 1st. This rare presentation invites us into the playful, boundary-breaking mind of a master who helped shape both Dada and Surrealism. I believe this visit will offer us a journey that defies language—poetic and boundless in imagination, inviting tears in the presence of beauty and quiet contemplation in the face of sorrow.
