About Event

Join us for a discussion, Q&A, and pitch session with writers and professionals to talk about how to find and sharpen opinions and angles for your written work.

A strong point of view is table stakes for writers and founders who want to stand out today. This event will help you hone in on that strategic differentiation.

  • 45 minutes: Discussion

  • 15 minutes: Q&A

  • 15 minutes: 5 participants will have 1 minute to pitch their hot take and get feedback from our speakers

Anyone who wants to pitch needs to send the organizers their pitch before the event. We will email the 5 selected to pitch 24 hours prior to the event.

Speakers:

  • Eleanor Warnock: a writer and communications expert who is currently managing editor at the Reid Hoffman backed publication Every and writes a newsletter on AI and writing. She has written for the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, and was deputy editor at Sifted.

  • Georgia Ritter: head of marketing at Giant Ventures, where she works closely with the portfolio on press and narrative. She is also host of Out of Hours podcast, which tells the stories of people who have created things they think should exist in the world, reached their potential, and been their most authentic selves in the process.

  • Nicole Torres: managing editor of Bloomberg Pursuits, the luxury lifestyle arm of Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine. She was previously Bloomberg's managing editor of opinion, EMEA overseeing the production of daily commentary on business, politics, culture and international affairs. She was also previously a senior editor at Harvard Business Review.

  • Tom Nugent: managing editor at the FT-backed Sifted where he masterminds five free newsletters and edits opinion pieces by external contributors.

About The Founder-writer Collective

Writers are now founders. From Emily Sundberg's "studio mindset" to Ashlee Vance's bet on independent storytelling, professional writers own and operate their own brands.

At the same time, company founders increasingly see the value in being writing-first practitioners. By thinking and writing in public, they create new opportunities and cultivate a point-of-view. In the tradition of Warren Buffett and Paul Graham, by way of Julie Zhuo, founders are now writers.

We want to bring these groups together to discuss the future of writing (and editing), find new collaborators, and create time to just get on with writing.
