About Event
Discussion as part of Body of Work: an event about art that uses technology to turn your body into its material.
Haptics, sensors, and other technologies give artists new ways of working with the bodies of the audience. When touch becomes the site of the artwork, it can't be documented. It exists only in your body.
Touch is intimate and complex to work with. There is little terminology, few shared references, and no defined frameworks. What makes this different from an aesthetic SPA experience? Can haptic art be provocative or unsettling? What responsibility do we have as artists when we work with the bodies of our audience?
