Thinking in systems: Mapping the current reality of unsustainable tech
Welcome to the first workshop in a series of collaborative systems thinking sessions! We'll be working together to map out the complex challenges hindering the development of sustainable technology.
In this introductory workshop, we will collaborate to map the current reality of unsustainable tech. We'll collectively define the key categories we need to explore throughout the series–from resource extraction and manufacturing all the way through to its end-of-life management.
During this workshop, you will:
Shape the scope: Help us identify at least 12 critical categories for our mapping exercise. We'll start with a few pre-defined areas, then open the floor for your insights and expertise.
Prioritize key areas: Engage in discussions to determine which categories warrant the most attention and effort during the series.
Build a roadmap: Contribute to establishing a roadmap for the following workshops, ensuring we cover the most pressing issues.
Discover your interests: Identify areas of sustainable tech that particularly resonate with you and align with your passions.
This workshop is an opportunity to connect with fellow ClimateAction.Tech community members, share knowledge, and collectively build a comprehensive understanding of how technology contributes to (and can contribute to solving!) environmental, social, and economic unsustainability.

Siddhesh Wagle is the founder of SystemsTree. His vision is to empower individuals and organizations to integrate sustainability as a core value into their technological practices. He is a volunteer at CAT and runs the thinking in systems workshop series.
Jon Sleeper is a coach, facilitator and consultant with extensive life experience in technology, business and change. He has worked with software in business, change and delivery management for more than 30 years.
