The AI Gaze - Seeing Ourselves Through Machines: Film Screening and Interactive Installation
How does artificial intelligence “see” us, and what does it tell us about who we are?
The AI Gaze brings together two connected works that examine how machine vision classifies, interprets, and (mis)recognises people.
Join us for the Birmingham premiere of "Closer to Go(o)d?", a short film by Kiki Shervington-White, followed by a panel discussion with collaborators, and explore "Colour Decoded", an interactive face-detection installation co-created by Kiki Shervington-White and Luca Zheng.
Both works were developed through the "Inclusive AI Futures?" Fellowship project, led by Sanjay Sharma(University of Warwick), in collaboration with Anita Shervington (BLAST Fest) and Toju Duke (Diverse AI), and funded by the UK-wide BRAID (Bridging Responsible AI Divides) programme. The project reimagines AI through creativity, justice and community, challenging the idea that technological progress is inevitable by centring perspectives often excluded from mainstream debates.
This event is part of the Black STEAM Goes Green Festival. Both the film and interactive art installation sets the scene for a lively conversation that invites audiences to reflect-on and discuss the broader politics of Artificial Intelligence on human and planetary health systems, and imagine more inclusive, empowering and liberatory technological futures.
