Virginia Tech’s Innovation Campus Academic Building One

​Join us for an in‑depth tour of Virginia Tech’s Innovation Campus Academic Building One. Designed by SmithGroup, the project showcases next‑generation sustainable strategies, including computationally‑informed design and future-focused building systems. 

​This tour will highlight how the building supports the unique needs of Virginia Tech’s computer science and computer engineering programs, integrating teaching, research, faculty, and student spaces within a highly adaptable and efficient environment. Explore the building’s distinctive faceted form, computationally optimized to maximize renewable energy generation through its integrated photovoltaic system.

​Attendees will also examine the project’s fully electrified building systems and discuss how electrification is essential for transitioning buildings to carbon‑free energy sources. Additional features include high‑performance, energy‑efficient systems; flexible interior planning; and a welcoming urban design that celebrates daylight, views, and pedestrian flow—establishing an iconic identity for Virginia Tech’s 21st‑century campus. The project is targeted for LEED Platinum certification.
