The Pacific Sessions: Tuvalu, Digital Sovereignty & What's Next

​Altogether, DeepAI has spent a couple of months working in Tuvalu, one of the smallest and least-visited nations on earth, predicted to sink entirely by 2050. We went in to support the government with digital transformation. What we found was far bigger.

​From climate-proof housing being built on the outer island of Nukulaelae, to a stray dog crisis on the main island of Funafuti that the community is struggling to contain, Tuvalu is facing compounding, urgent challenges that go well beyond digital infrastructure.

​During the session, we'll share footage, recordings, and interviews gathered directly from locals who asked us to record them and help spread the word about their lives. Pacific islands are often described as a paradise on Earth. A closer look can challenge that label.

​We'll also talk about what's next, DeepAI has been approached by Vanuatu and Kiribati to advise on their digital development, and across the Pacific we've found that almost none of these nations have laws or regulations around cybersecurity, AI, or digital privacy. They're asking us to help write them.
