Energy's Next Generation: A Fireside Chat with the Future Energy Leaders
The energy transition will not be won by technology alone — it needs a new generation of leaders who can bridge disciplines, industries, and geographies. But who are they, how are they being shaped, and what role do emerging professionals play in steering a sector that is simultaneously decarbonizing, digitalizing, and geopolitically fragmenting?
This fireside chat explores the World Energy Council's Future Energy Leaders programme — one of the longest-running global platforms for developing the next generation of energy decision-makers. The conversation covers how young professionals engage with top-level energy policy, what intergenerational collaboration looks like in practice, and where the programme sees the biggest leadership gaps across the transition.
The conversation is led by Thaddeus Anim-Somuah, Chairman of the Future Energy Leaders programme and Board Member of the World Energy Council. A chartered chemical engineer by training, he is Global Senior Manager Sustainability at Philips, where he leads circularity and natural capital strategy across the company's global manufacturing operations. He also serves on the supervisory boards of Triodos Investment Management and World Vision Netherlands.
