Mohlat: Pehla Sher
A Poetry Workshop in association with Para
Pause. Pick up the pen. Write your first ghazal, nazm, or poem — in three hours.
You've been meaning to write. You just haven't had the time.
Between the tabs, the pings, the endless research rabbit holes — the thought appears, floats for a moment, and disappears before you ever reach for a pen. The line that came to you at 2am. The feeling you couldn't explain to anyone, so you just carried it quietly.
This is your Mohlat. Your grace period. Your permission slip to finally put it down on paper.
Pehla Sher is an intimate three-hour poetry workshop for people who have never written a poem — or who wrote one once, long ago, and then quietly stopped. No experience needed. No performance required. Just you, a prompt, and a room full of people doing the same brave, tender thing for the first time.
In association with Para
We're partnering with Para: the AI research assistant that lives where you already are: WhatsApp, Slack, Notion, Telegram. Para skims through 8+ LLMs so you don't have to, bringing you the sharpest, most distilled research outputs without making you hunt across a dozen websites and tools.
Para gives you your time back. Mohlat is what you do with it.
Because what's the point of working smarter if you never make room for the things that make you feel alive? Para handles the research chaos. You come here and create.
What Happens in the Room
Not a lecture. Not a class. Something closer to a slow, guided unravelling.
Over three hours, you'll be walked through the bones of Urdu and Hindi poetic forms: the ghazal, the nazm, the sher, without the jargon or the pressure. You'll write in real time, surrounded by others finding their words alongside you. By the end of the evening, something will exist on paper that didn't exist when you walked in. And it will be entirely, unmistakably yours.
Craft made simple — Ghazal, Nazm, and free verse explained like a conversation, not a textbook. Hindi, Urdu, English, Hinglish — whatever language your feelings speak
Guided writing prompts — Designed to gently loosen what's already inside you
The Mehfil moment — An optional, zero-pressure sharing circle at the close. Read aloud, or simply listen
Comment chits — Anonymous notes of warmth passed between participants, because every first attempt deserves to be witnessed kindly
Chai & Guftagu — Because poetry and tea have never needed an introduction
Who This Is For
The one who saves lines in their Notes app and never shows anyone. The one who underlines things in books and thinks — I feel this, but I could never have written it. The one who has been waiting for the right time, the right space, the right kind of quiet.
You don't need talent — or rather, you have it already, and this evening is simply where you'll meet it.
This is a zero-judgment zone. Completely. Always.
