โ๐ About the Event โ PREVENTION
โMany of the Bay Areaโs most visible crises โ homelessness, displacement, family instability, and economic insecurity โ are often addressed after harm has already occurred. But what if we invested upstream, in solutions that prevent these outcomes in the first place?
โJoin us in the PRESIDIO at the House by Edge and Node for the INNOVAT3 Connected Communities Meetup, (fka We ๐ SF) focused on PREVENTION and one of the most promising, evidence-backed models: universal access to civil legal aid.
โThis month, weโll highlight the work of Open Door Legal, which is leading the effort to make San Francisco the first city in the United States to provide universal access to legal help for people facing civil legal issues โ regardless of income.
โA recent peer-reviewed academic study found that timely legal intervention can prevent homelessness at a fraction of the cost of downstream responses, demonstrating that prevention is not only more humane, but dramatically more cost-effective than emergency shelter and crisis intervention.
โWhat Weโll Explore
โThis gathering will feature an expert panel and collaborative discussion examining:
โHow legal aid functions as critical preventive infrastructure
โWhy access to the law can stop crises before they escalate into homelessness
โWhat the data tells us about cost, outcomes, and scalability
โHow prevention-focused models can reshape how cities allocate resources
โAdditional panelists focused on prevention, policy, and community-based intervention will be announced.
