Berlin Future Hub: Scaling Internationally, U.S.A. Edition #2

Is the US the right next market for your startup? And if so, what does it actually take to get there?

In this session, we're bringing in two people with direct, hands-on experience in the US urban and climate tech space: one building the ecosystem from the inside, one who made the leap from Berlin and is growing there right now.

Meet the speakers:

Chris Walla, Senior Director at BATWorks

BATWorks is one of NYC's most exciting new climate tech infrastructure projects. A NYCEDC-backed innovation hub anchoring a growing ecosystem along the New York Harbor, designed to help climate tech companies prototype, pilot, and scale. Chris will give us a window into what's actually happening in New York's urban and climate tech scene: who the key players are, what opportunities exist for international companies, and how a hub like BATWorks fits into the bigger picture.

Holland Cathey, US Expansion Lead at Swobbee

Swobbee is a Berlin-born climate tech company building battery-swapping infrastructure for light electric vehicles. E-bikes, cargo bikes, mopeds...and they've already made the jump to New York. Holland will share the real story of that expansion: what worked, what didn't, and what Berlin-based startups should know before setting foot in the US market.

What we'll cover:

  • The NYC urban and climate tech ecosystem: key players, entry points, and opportunities

  • Swobbee's US expansion story, from Berlin to New York

  • What's coming from Berlin Future Hub in 2026-2027

  • Full program & applications for the November delegation trip to New York City

  • Q&A and open exchange

This session is designed for Berlin-based startups and SMEs working in urban tech, gov tech, smart cities, climate, or social impact who are thinking seriously about international growth.
