The opening session of MTUK's Innovation & Investment Day brings together Scott Cohen and Cliff Fluet for a fireside chat to examine a question that sits at the heart of the modern music economy: who actually captures the value that music creates? From the rise of catalogue as an asset class to the wealth gap between platform owners and the creators who built that value, this conversation sets the scene for a day of debate about where the music technology sector goes next.
Speakers:
Scott Cohen, Co-founder, The Orchard & Jukebox
Cliff Fluet, Chair, MTUK; Partner, Lewis Silkin

13:30-14:30 Fanbase Forward: How Technology is Transforming Music's Most Valuable Asset
Music fandom has always been the engine of the industry - but the tools available to harness it have changed beyond recognition. From AI-powered audience segmentation and real-time consumption data to short-form video, this panel examines what the new fandom economy looks like, and who is building the infrastructure to power it.
A new generation of companies is building products at the intersection of fan data, monetisation, and engagement - tools that help artists understand their audiences, deepen relationships, and create sustainable revenue beyond streaming.
The conversation will also explore how consumption patterns are shifting. Younger audiences are engaging with music from well before their time, drawn in through cultural moments, e.g. a TV soundtrack, a viral clip, a game placement, and converted into active fans of legacy artists and catalogues.
Speakers:
Claire Mas, Strategic Advisor, CriticalMas (Moderator)
Will Beardmore, Director of Fan Data Strategy, Universal Music UK (Panelist)
Dot Levine, SVP Global Communications, Vevo London (Panelist)
James Morrison, Co-founder & CEO, Planet Fans (Panelist)
Lauren Kreisler, Director of Brand & Digital, Official Charts (Panelist)
