River Computer Salon
Join us for an evening with River Computer, an RND studio for the advancement of eco-technical interfaces.
This salon is a gathering for those curious about emerging / ancestral theory and practices for computing with living systems. What might it mean to design technical systems that think with the world rather than about it?
Amidst the proliferation of twins and advocates that promise to speak on behalf of the more-than-human, we are in a collapse of the diversity of intelligences and computation which populate our planet.
Woven through lore, prototyping, and speculative horizons we introduce River Computer, and probe how technology and governance can be leveraged not to replace the more-than-human, but to actually interact with it.
This invitation is part presentation, part demo, and part speculation to explore computation across
fast and slow systems
wet and dry architectures
organic and synthetic forms
Lore - Prototyping - Speculations
We'll break the evening down into 3 parts... ~ 20 min each, with time for discussion / breakouts throughout and at the end.
Lore · Discovering Computation Without Computers
Rivers compute through flow but can we read their output? How can we interface with latent planetary information processing systems? We'll offer some context...
Prototype · Wind Trust and Living Covenants
We’ll present early experiments from River Computer: Wind Trust, a digital organism whose superuser is the atmosphere, and Living Covenants, ecological agreements that anchor trust and reciprocity in autonomous planetary contracts.
Horizons · There's a lot on it. We'll introduce new collaborations with several grassroots and indigenous nations, and outline the shape of an oracle systems built on the first principles of River Computer.
If some of this sounds absurd then the point is getting across. It should be fun.
We'll start with an open happy hour at 6:30pm and start the event at 7:30ish....
