Creativity Through Flexibility | Book Talk with Kelsey Nanan (CUSP ’21)

​The Center for Urban Science + Progress (CUSP) at NYU Tandon is thrilled to host Kelsey Nanan (CUSP M.S. ’21) for an event to celebrate the publication of her book Creativity Through Flexibility: Exploring the World with Data Visualization! This event will be held in the CUSP Learning Commons, located on the 13th Floor of 370 Jay Street.

​About the Book

​What do Wes Anderson films, New York City street trees, and every known exoplanet have in common? In Creativity Through Flexibility, Kelsey Nanan turns them all into data visualizations. This collection contains 32 charts in total, spanning pop culture, public health, nature, and outer space. Together, they make the world a little more fun to look at. Each piece began as a daily prompt during a month-long creative challenge that fostered adaptability and experimentation, made with custom code, design tools, or something in between. The result: part coffee table book, part magazine, and wholly its own.

​About the Author

​Kelsey Nanan is a data visualization engineer and creative storyteller from Trinidad and Tobago. She builds data-driven tools and visual narratives that bridge technical depth and design. She previously worked at McKinsey & Company’s Data Visualization Lab, building interactive applications and public-facing data products for global clients. She now works independently, developing and consulting on data visualization projects for clients while writing and speaking about her practice and teaching at New York University and the School of Visual Arts. She is based in New York City.
