About Event

Spend a morning weaving a functional, beautiful structure for your garden.

A willow cloche is a woven, bell-shaped garden structure used to shelter young seedlings, delicate plants, and leafy greens from ambitious nibblers, curious paws, and wandering feet.

Woven from locally harvested willow, these rustic structures offer protection while also supporting vining plants and trailing perennials. They bring an old-world character into the garden, where usefulness and beauty sit side by side.

This workshop is well suited to beginners, as well as those looking to deepen their understanding of structural willow work.

Considerations:

  • A willow cloche is not permanent it will last about 3 years in the garden.

  • You can treat them with linseed oil if you would like them to last longer.

Design Notes:

  • Usually the first part of a willow garden structure to go is the stakes that are buried in the ground. I have designed this cloche so that the stakes are thick, strong and easily replaceable.

  • One of my favourite uses for a cloche is to protect seedlings and provide support when covering tender plants with a blanket on frosty nights. I will show you how to weave a special variation of a rope coil weave so you can minimize having pokey bits on the outside which can catch and cause rips in your blanket.

You will leave with a finished cloche and the skills to continue making them for your own garden.

All materials and tools provided.

We will break for chai and cake …💕

We will have a small collection of jigs available for sale during the workshop. The are made by a local carpenter and there price is $120.
