Speakers & Topics
How “Boring AI” Is Beating Billion-Dollar Experiments
Many organizations are investing heavily in AI—yet struggling to translate bold bets into real business impact. In this session, Adam will challenge the assumption that AI transformation requires moonshots or massive experimentation. Instead, he will show how some of the most successful enterprises are winning with what he calls “boring AI”: disciplined automation, pragmatic use cases, and relentless focus on measurable outcomes. Drawing on real-world examples, Adam will explore how companies are cutting through AI hype, building trust, delivering ROI, and laying the foundations for scalable, responsible AI that actually sticks.
Adam Field is an Outthinker member and Chief AI and Product Officer at Tungsten Automation, where he leads global AI strategy and product innovation for large enterprises. With deep experience at the intersection of AI, product management, and enterprise transformation, Adam is known for translating emerging technologies into tangible business results. He is a frequent keynote speaker and trusted advisor to organizations looking to move beyond experimentation and turn AI into a durable source of value.
Adam will be joined by Tamas Hevizi, Outthinker member and Chief Strategy Officer and EVP of Marketing at Tungsten Automation, who brings more than 30 years of experience in enterprise software, private equity, and corporate strategy, and will contribute additional perspective on value creation and strategic execution at scale.
Group Strategy as a Competitive Advantage: The Cibest Case
Group strategy has the potential to be a powerful source of competitive advantage—but in many organizations, it ends up as little more than overhead or bureaucracy.
In this session, David Zapata will walk us through how Cibest (Grupo Bancolombia) deliberately designed a group corporate strategy to ensure its individual businesses were stronger together than apart. He will share the journey of evolving from a company-level strategy to a true group strategy—covering how the organization aligned on a common purpose, governance structure, operating norms, and reporting model, while still allowing each business to remain clear, distinctive, and strategically focused. David will also discuss how Cibest shifted from a traditional strategy-cascading approach to one that emphasizes strategic thinking and agility, and will engage the group in a conversation about the broader implications for complex, multi-business enterprises.
David Zapata is an Outthinker member and the Corporate Head of Strategy at Grupo Bancolombia, where he leads group-level strategy across one of the largest financial institutions in Latin America. With more than 20 years of experience in financial services, David works closely with the CEO, senior leadership team, and board to define corporate purpose, strategic priorities, portfolio focus, and the capabilities required to compete and differentiate at scale.
Preparing for Board Service
Many Outthinker members serve on and are interested in serving on boards. Francis will walk us through how to prepare yourself for board service, how to get on the radar of the individuals and firms that place executives on boards, and what the key capabilities and questions are that you should be thinking about.
Francis Arias Hondal is an accomplished global executive with more than 30 years of experience in consumer products, loyalty marketing, finance, and international business management. She is a board member of Equitable Holdings, Inc., a financial service holding company. She also serves on the board of Bath & Body Works and the Florida International University Foundation. Until 2022, she was President of Loyalty and Engagement at Mastercard Inc.
The Strategy Officer’s Core Job—and How AI Is Changing It
The real work of a strategy officer is not analytical optimization—it is political and social. The true “job to be done” is to bring senior leaders to collectively align on, believe in, and commit to the right decisions, often in the face of uncertainty, competing interests, and imperfect information. In this session, David Duncan will explore how AI is beginning to reshape that core responsibility. Moving beyond tools and technologies, David will examine how AI is changing the way strategic conversations are framed, how scenarios are explored, how consequences—both intended and unintended—are surfaced, and how leaders come to buy into difficult choices. Drawing on real, cutting-edge applications across a range of businesses and situations, this session will show how AI is influencing not just strategic analysis, but the human process through which strategic decisions actually get made.
David Duncan is a bestselling author, advisor, and Partner at Disruptive Edge, where he works with senior leadership teams on growth, innovation, and strategic transformation. He is the co-author of Competing Against Luck with Clayton Christensen and the author of The Secret Lives of Customers. Previously, David was a long-time leader at Innosight, where he helped shape many of the firm’s most influential approaches to strategy and innovation, and earlier in his career, he worked at McKinsey & Company. He brings a rare combination of analytical rigor and lived experience in how senior teams actually make—and commit to—strategic decisions.
