About Event

About the session
Digital tools and AI are rapidly reshaping what is possible in the social and environmental sectors—but many organizations are still figuring out how to apply them in ways that genuinely scale impact.

This session, hosted by Fika and Earth Genome, explores how advances in AI and data are helping close critical information gaps and unlock more effective decision-making. From tripling the amount of mapped waterways globally, to identifying illegal gold mining in the Amazon, to modeling the impact of rural transportation systems across continents, the session draws on concrete examples of how technology is being applied in practice.

It also looks beyond the technology itself to the broader ecosystem: how open data can create momentum, how accessible tools can connect with stakeholders, and what it takes to translate innovation into real-world change.

What to expect
The session will be structured in two parts. The first will share lessons from Fika and Earth Genome’s work using AI and digital tools to close data gaps and support large-scale impact. The second will open into a facilitated discussion, inviting participants to explore how these approaches can be applied in their own contexts.

Together, the conversation will focus on what it takes to move from experimentation to meaningful, scalable use of AI in environmental and social work.

Who this is for
This session is for funders and organizations who see digital technology as a potential enabler of scale, and are looking to better understand how to navigate an increasingly fast-moving technology landscape.

What you will get out of it

  • Real-world examples of how AI is being used to drive impact at scale

  • Insights into closing data gaps and leveraging open data
