CV + AI Community Meetup #8: Both Hands Full

We end the year the way this chapter began: curious, critical, and in the same room.

The idea

December is for taking stock without pretending the story is tidy.

This year, Comox Valley AI went from “is anyone here for this?” to a real room with local hosts, local speakers, sponsors, practical examples, hard questions, and enough follow-up energy to keep the conversation alive between meetups. That is not nothing.

AI did not get simpler. The tools got faster. The questions got sharper. The sales pitches got louder. But the Valley kept doing the thing that matters most: showing up together.

December is our field report. What did we learn? What surprised us? Which tools actually helped? Which worries got more specific? Who needs to be in the room next year? What should Comox Valley AI become if we want this community to be useful in 2027, not just interesting in 2026?

Both hands full. That was always the deal.

The question in the room

What did the Valley learn this year, and what do we carry into 2027?

Bring the local signal

This month can hold short reflections, lightning updates, community stories, project notes, open questions, and a few brave predictions for the year ahead.

If this theme overlaps with your work or life, bring a grounded example, experiment, hard question, or lesson from the field. This is a community room, not a polished conference track. Nobody has final answers.

What to expect

  • A year-end field report from the Comox Valley AI community.

  • Short talks, reflections, or demos from local people.

  • A practical look at what the chapter should do next year.

  • Time to meet people, thank contributors, and name the questions worth carrying forward.

Who should come

Come if you attended earlier this year and want to help shape what comes next. Come if you missed the first run but want to understand the room before 2027 starts moving. Come if you are an educator, artist, builder, parent, public servant, founder, student, skeptic, neighbour, or person trying to stay human while the tools get stranger.

You do not need a technical background. You do need some curiosity about what these tools are doing to work, creativity, learning, trust, and life in the Valley.

About Comox Valley AI

Comox Valley AI is the BC + AI regional chapter for Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, Campbell River, and the wider Island. Comox Valley AI is led by an organizing committee: Lourdes Gant, Kris Krüg, Steve Jones, Colin Fitzgerald, and Mel DiPietro.

We bring builders, artists, educators, parents, public servants, founders, skeptics, students, and curious neighbours into the same room to understand AI without the hype, the panic, or the sales pitch.

The Island has its own shape: practical, creative, community-first, and allergic to nonsense. That is the spirit here. Curious and critical. Both hands full. Real people figuring it out together.

About BC + AI

BC + AI Ecosystem Association is a registered nonprofit building community-driven AI spaces across British Columbia. We help people learn in public, share what is real, ask better questions, and build local capacity around AI with ethics, creativity, transparency, and public good in the room from the beginning.
