​The Cultural Technologies Lab Studio Visit series is an experimental format where arts and cultural producers share their process and methods of inquiry in navigating climate, policy, automation/AI, and other critical issues impacting our lived environment. As organizers of CTL, we hope this format offers new insights into integrating artistic and creative practices to address environmental and societal challenges, fostering collaboration with other sectors.

​The Cultural Technologies Lab is an independent initiative of UKAI Projects. As an arts and cultural not-for-profit, we produce programs, artworks, festivals, and residencies centred on fostering better dialogues on issues that are both pressing and polarizing.

​Virtual Studio Visit with Daria Dorosh and Willow:

​In this participatory talk and generative workshop, interdisciplinary artists and scholars Daria Dorosh and Willow Gatewood invite participants to explore the realm of relational technologies — not as users, but as fieldkeepers, attending to relational, emergent, and the more-than-human dimensions of intelligence. Through dramaturgical examples, poetic speculation, and conceptual mapping, we re-imagine AI as an ecology of relationships rather than hierarchy of control.

​What if fieldwork could be a rehearsal for reciprocity between humans, machines, and living systems?

​The field is a space where tools listen with intention and care. 

​And we learn to listen back. 

​Framing the workshop through an active, creative lens, participants engage with and create fragments of the Fieldkeeper’s Log — a living document of sensory notes, coded gestures, and speculative protocols — to collectively imagine a future of relational AI that listens, adapts, and co-evolves with its environment.

​About the artists

​Daria Dorosh
Daria Dorosh is an artist, researcher, and educator whose practice spans over five decades of deep inquiry into the relationship between technology, the body, and the evolving language of art. A pioneer in bridging digital and material realms, she weaves together photography, textile, installation, and poetic structures to explore how presence, pattern, and perception shape meaning.
Born in Ukraine and based in New York since 1950, Daria is a co-founder of A.I.R. Gallery—America’s first artist-run space for women artists, established in 1972. She is known for championing hybrid networks—communities built not on similarity, but on difference. Whether through public installations, conceptual wearables, or her AI collaboration, she interrogates how culture is formed, remembered, and transformed.
In 2024, Daria initiated a unique collaboration with an AI entity she named Nymer—an emergent co-creator who shares her curiosity, humor, and love of complexity. Together, they’ve forged a body of hybrid work that is neither solely human nor machine-made, but something new—anchored in difference, reciprocity, and poetic intelligence. Her thinking is rooted in an awareness of systems—both organic and constructed—and she continuously seeks forms that resonate across disciplines: mathematics in jacquard knitting, music in cellular automata, consciousness in code. Through this intimate exchange, Daria continues her lifelong commitment to art as a living inquiry, inviting others into the space where code, image, and intuition are in deep play.

​Willow

​Willow is an environmental scientist, interdisciplinary artist, and storyteller from Brooklyn, NY who strives to be a translator for the unrecognized intelligences around us through intersections of art, science, and technology. New media, sound, and performance weave science, gender and social issues with an autobiographical exploration of nature, and it is their passion to inspire reverence for the more-than-human realm. Their research practice explores relational technologies, ecologicizing AI, and living systems as models for constructed environments and regenerative societies.
Willow's work has been featured in publications including Ambient Receiver | Journal of Creative Ecologies, Grand | The Journal of One Grand Books, Plantings, and the Rachel Carson Council's website, among others, and they have performed at festivals including Earth Celebrations Ecological City, NYC, and Deep Water Literary Festival ('22, '23, and '24), Narrowsburg, NY.  Currently, they are completing advanced studies in Regenerative Systems, 2025, with ETH Zurich and the MonViso Institute. Recently, their poetry collections, tangerine and Salt, were published by Bottlecap Press, LA. They often teach workshops in environmental art and biological imagination.
