About Event

*This event is a part of a three part Somatic Nourishment series centring Black African Diasporic women and gender expansive beings: Sat/Feb 14: Fire & Spirit: Somatic Movement and Dance | Sun/Feb15: Ancestral Hands (Attend separately or all three)

Your creative expression is a living extension of all who came before you. Your voice, your movement, your art—these carry forward the cultures, the stories, the dreams that your ancestors held. To create is to keep their spirit alive. To express yourself is to honour the gift of your unique presence.

In this practice, we gather to nourish our creativity through three interwoven modalities: movement and dance, drawing, and writing. We honour that creative expression—particularly within Black culture—is necessity. It is how we remember ourselves, how we speak our truths, how we keep our cultures vibrant and alive.

Through gentle invitation and spacious holding, you'll be supported to explore movement as creative language, to let your hands create marks and images, to give voice to what wants to be expressed. We honour the creative force that moves through you, trusting your body's wisdom and witnessing the beauty of authentic self-expression.

Throughout, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Explore movement and dance as creative expression

  • Create through drawing, mark-making, and visual expression

  • Write, journal, and give voice to inner knowing

  • Weave together all three modalities in your own unique way

  • Opportunity to engage with your creativity in community

  • Honour your creative expression as sacred and essential

Who This Practice Welcomes

This practice is a part of a series centring Black African Diasporic women and gender expansive beings, offering sacred space for those living at the intersections of anti-Black racism and gender-based oppression. You may be called here to express, to create, to honour the voice within. You might be an established artist seeking community and inspiration, or someone who hasn't created in years and is ready to return.

No previous experience with movement, dance, or somatic practice is needed. Creativity lives in every body. Expression is our birthright. You can participate with whatever materials you have available, or simply with your body and breath. All movements are adaptable and can be explored seated, standing, or lying down. Resting is always an option.

For questions about accessibility or to discuss how this practice can support your needs, please contact Camille at [email protected]
