Speaker

Energy systems are becoming more dynamic, decentralized, and data-intensive. With growing shares of renewables, distributed assets, and real-time constraints, many processes across the sector are shifting from static planning to continuous optimization. AI is starting to play a role across the entire value chain — from grid operations and forecasting to trading, asset management, and customer-facing applications.

This seminar looks at where AI is already being applied in practice and how it is changing decision-making in energy systems. The focus goes beyond control rooms and core infrastructure to include flexibility, maintenance, market interactions, and resilience. At the same time, the session addresses a strategic dimension: how European energy systems can build digital capabilities while maintaining control over critical infrastructure, data, and system architecture.

The session is led by Jan Bartoš, Chief AI Ambassador at ČEPS, the Czech Transmission System Operator responsible for operating and safeguarding the country’s high-voltage grid. Drawing on experience in digital transformation, control room innovation, and European coordination, the seminar connects current AI applications with operational realities in modern energy systems.

Jan Bartoš — Chief AI Ambassador and AI Business Partner at ČEPS and Senior Consultant at P3. Former Head of Digital Transformation and Senior Specialist for Digitalization of Energy at ČEPS. Convenor of the ENTSO-E working group on Digitalization and Communication, focusing on AIML tools, digital twins, and next-generation control room systems. Previously worked with the World Energy Council on digital risk and resilience.
